Auschwitz – huge extermination and labour complex run by SS in the year 1940 in southwest of occupied Poland in the suburbs of Oswiecim. Together with the neighbouring camp of Birkenau it become the biggest death camp of Hitler’s Germany mainly for Jewish, Russians, Poles, Gypsies and prisons from many other nationalities. Birkenau camp is located 3 kilometres from the Auschwitz here within 4 years functioning 1.5 million men, women and children were murdered. The remaining ruins of the gas chambers, crematories and wooden barracks have been preserved as everlasting warning.

 

“In Auschwitz, prisoners were killed by something called Lykon B. It was hydrogen cyanide which was poured through the ceiling of the gas chambers and turned into gas. The S.S. commanders of Auschwitz preferred Lykon B. because it worked fast.”
